Why mix apple cider vinegar and honey

Are you spending thousands of dollars on prescription drugs and still not seeing positive results in your condition? Then perhaps it is time to rethink your diet.

The root cause of many of the modern lifestyle diseases is inflammation. Inflammation is caused due to the acidic foods that we eat including grains, sugar, and processed foods. The best way to curb inflammation is to eat an alkaline diet and include more alkaline foods in our daily routine.

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) and honey are nature’s two of the most anti-inflammatory foods. Although apple cider vinegar is acidic and has a low pH, when it enters the body, it balances the pH and makes the body alkaline. And in this alkaline environment, disease-causing organisms simply cannot survive.

Honey, on the other hand, is antibacterial and antiseptic. It fights bad bacteria, boosts immunity, and keeps infections at bay.

Another reason to mix the two ingredients is that the taste of apple cider vinegar, as most of us know, is quite acrid and pungent. By adding honey, you can tone it down, sweeten the tartness, and make the vinegar more palatable.

And that is why people are adding honey to their ACV drinks.

One of the most famous books on home remedies is Folk Medicine by D.C. Jarvis. Written in 1956, it is still widely read today. In it, the author outlines the benefits of consuming apple cider vinegar and honey. This is where the term Honeygar comes from.

Apple cider vinegar is great as long as it is raw, organic, and with the ‘mother enzyme’. Honey also need to be local, raw, organic to derive maximum benefits.

Arthritis

Apple cider vinegar and honey may help reduce joint inflammation. Some authors suggest using an external salve made with the mixture along with crushed garlic on the aching joints. This is certainly worth trying, especially for mild cases of arthritis.

Acne

Hundreds of women and men have noticed clearer skin by consuming a mixture of apple cider vinegar and honey. It’s best to do it in the morning: to a glass of warm water, add a tablespoon of organic honey and 1-2 tablespoons of organic, raw, ACV containing its mother enzyme. With regular use, your skin should clear out. You can also use the mixture as a post-cleansing toner all over the acne marks and blemishes.

Bladder infections or urinary tract infections (UTI)

Thousands of women end up with recurring urinary tract infections. A major cause of UTI is improper hygiene which causes germs to enter the bladder from the anus. You can drink a glass of apple cider vinegar and honey daily to prevent UTI recurrence. Vinegar makes the bladder alkaline so that germs cannot thrive there. Honey provides an anti-inflammatory as well as anti-bacterial action to eliminate e.coli bacteria that are responsible for the UTI.

Canker sores

Drink a mixture of ACV and honey to relieve pain from canker sores and ulcers in a day.

Colds and coughs

A warm drink made with water, ACV, honey, and a bit of turmeric will relieve mucus and stop throat aches, sinusitis, and coughs in their track. Drink this mixture twice a day during the flu season to prevent getting sick.

Constipation

Honey is a mild laxative and apple cider vinegar gently kick-starts the sluggish bowels to relieve constipation. Drink the mixture with a glass of warm water on an empty stomach to keep yourself regular.

Headaches and migraines

ACV and honey’s anti-inflammatory action relieves migraine pressures, tension headaches, and cluster headaches. Drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Heart disease

Drinking ACV and honey daily, mixed with a few crushed garlic cloves may have the potential to prevent heart diseases.

Weight loss

Peel off the pounds by drinking this potent weight loss drink. Apple cider vinegar and honey taken before meals curbs the appetite to prevent unhealthy cravings and hunger pangs.

Potential side effects

Apple cider vinegar and honey are generally safe and have no side effects. However, they are no substitute for prescription medicine and you must always consult your physician before making any dietary changes.

Some side effects of ACV are loss of dental enamel and burning sensation in the stomach and oesophagus. If these side effects continue, stop taking the ACV drink.

Conclusion

A person’s bloodstream becomes acidic thanks to a steady consumption of acidic foods like grains, sugar, and fast foods. When the body is acidic, germs and diseases flourish.

But in an alkaline environment, the body is in balance and fights off conditions like bladder infections, osteoporosis, low-energy, chronic fatigue, and slow-digestion.

A mixture of honey and apple cider vinegar helps make the body alkaline and even detoxifies the system from daily pollutants.

A word from the Founder

Hey, Gigi here. I developed an interest in fermented foods a couple of years ago when I recalled that my mum used to make it when I was a kid. Once I rediscovered the world of fermenting, I started reading about and making the food myself. Here at MyFermentedFoods.com I blog about my journey and share my knowledge with you. I hope you enjoy reading it. Read More…
